We wish to pay our respects to the traditional owners and custodians of the lands and waters on which we operate, the Ngunawal, Ngunnawal and Ngambri peoples. We acknowledge that sovereignty was never ceded and this land always has been and always will be Aboriginal land.

Rejection Party 23 July 2022

Rejection Party: "a miserly compensation for getting trapped in an alternative reality in which you failed …" This coming Saturday @TributaryProjects 4-8 pm! Spreading love on the Ngunawal, Ngunnawal and Ngambri lands~

Being rejected is a shared experience and an inescapable one for artists and creatives. We would like to invite everyone in our community who has been rejected in any form recently to come together, share the experience and celebrate ourselves and our ideas.

Bring snacks, drinks, or money to donate. We will also have mulled wine from 5:30 pm.

Schedule

4-5:30 pm: Regenerate and Heal (for those who like a calm party with tea, chats, snacks and relaxing vibes)

5:30-8:00 pm: Celebrate Heartbreak (mulled wine, snacks, stand-up comedy by Sharkie Dee about heartbreak)

after 8 pm: continue to hang out with friends as you like at other venues in civic.

Sharkie Dee is Australia’s very own cybernetic femme clown stand-up comedy bot, if you don’t know what that means, don’t worry, neither does she.

She performs alongside her partner in crime Cherie; her French-speaking, self-built animatronic Great White Shark ex-girlfriend, who is ruining her life but she also just can’t seem to quit. Together Sharkie Dee and Cherie together explore the dark, the absurd and the existential from failure and rejection to the etiquette of knowing if you have been left on "read" by a member of another species.

Context

Tributary projects as a collective applied for the biggest amount of funding we ever attempted. We recently got our rejection letter and felt an immediate need to care for ourselves, heal from the frustration, and recognise and celebrate our courage.

This party is inspired by the many rejection parties that have been held by different people in the past. It is organised by Zora Pang. She has been a volunteer for Tributary since late 2020, and continues to think about and experiment with strategy, structure, relationship and collectivity. Cathy Petocz is the centre of ideas and creative process who designed the theme and space. Jessica Tanto, among many others, provided lots of feedback and ideas. Sam Andrews, Izzy Sheppard, Catherine Spare, Danni all helped us make it possible to be part of our craftnoon.

Tributary is supported by Ainslie and Gorman Arts Centres
