EMILY GALICEK

IRL is an exhibition of paintings by Emily Galicek that critiques the nebulous state of post-digital culture. Through incorporating strategies of parody and humour, Galicek’s paintings call into question the slippery areas between on and offline, high and low culture, real and fake. Using imagery and graphics sourced from a variety of online spaces and formats such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Etsy and iStockPhoto, Galicek’s works consider the potential of the painting to visualise these digital networks in real life.

Emily Galicek is a practitioner currently completing a Master of Fine Arts (Research) at the University of New South Wales. She has a background in photography and performance, but is now focused predominantly on painting.
Emily’s recent work considers painting as a post-digital output. She is interested in the translation of digital methodologies to the physical painted space.
